How VolumeVibe Works
VolumeVibe is a browser extension that enhances audio playback in your tabs using advanced Web Audio API processing. Here's exactly what the extension does:
- Audio Processing: The extension captures audio from tabs you're actively listening to and processes it in real-time to improve volume and stereo characteristics.
- Local Processing: All audio processing happens entirely within your browser using the Web Audio API. No audio data ever leaves your device.
- Site Presets: When you save audio settings for a website, only the hostname (like "youtube.com") and your audio preferences are stored locally in your browser.
Data Storage
IMPORTANT: VolumeVibe does NOT store, collect, transmit, receive, or see any of your data. All data remains exclusively in YOUR browser.
🛡️ Zero Data Collection by VolumeVibe
We, as VolumeVibe developers, never have access to your data. All information stays completely private in your own browser.
What Your Browser Stores Locally
- What: Only your audio preferences for specific websites (volume, stereo, normalizer settings)
- Where: Stored locally in YOUR browser's sync storage - never transmitted to VolumeVibe servers
- Example: "youtube.com: volume 150%, stereo center" - stored only on your device
- Access: Only YOU and your browser have access to this data - VolumeVibe developers cannot see it
- Control: You can clear this data anytime through the extension's settings
Data We Never Access
VolumeVibe is designed with privacy as a core principle:
- Audio Content: We never record, save, or analyze the actual audio content you're listening to
- Browsing History: We only access the hostname of tabs that are currently playing audio
- Personal Information: No names, emails, accounts, or personal data is accessed or stored
- Tab Content: We never inject scripts or read the content of web pages
Permissions Explained
VolumeVibe requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function:
- "tabs": Required to identify which tabs are playing audio and capture their audio streams
- "offscreen": Required to run persistent audio processing that doesn't stop when the popup closes
- "storage": Required to save your site-specific audio preferences locally
- "tabCapture": Required to access and process audio from browser tabs
- "activeTab": Required to access the currently active tab when the extension is clicked
- "favicon": Required to display website icons next to tab titles in the extension popup
Data Synchronization
If you have Chrome sync enabled, your site-specific audio preferences will sync across your devices using Google's encrypted sync service. This is handled entirely by Chrome and follows Google's privacy policies. You can disable this by turning off Chrome sync in your browser settings.
Third-Party Services
VolumeVibe does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services. The extension is completely self-contained and doesn't communicate with any external servers.
Security
Your security is paramount:
- No Script Injection: VolumeVibe never injects code into websites, eliminating a major security risk
- Minimal Attack Surface: The extension uses only standard browser APIs and has no external dependencies
